Who or what inspired your career in Gastroenterology

I have many wonderful mentors over the years whom I admire very much.  They have been an integral part of my decision to pursue a career in gastroenterology and made me the clinician I am today.  To name a few- Dr. Irving Waxman who mentored me as a junior Internal Medicine resident, Dr. Jay Pasricha who gave me the opportunity to join the fellowship program at UTMB. Dr. Manoop Bhutani who encouraged me to reach my potential and Dr. GS Raju who to this day is a role model and mentor and is always ready to help me think through a challenging case.

What do you like the most about being a doctor, or your specialty?

I feel that digestive health is the root of many issues that impact the quality of people’s health.  Counseling patients on their GI conditions and well as the impact of lifestyle and nutrition allow patient to return to a healthier and more vibrant  life.
