Apply for the 2022 TMA Leadership College

The TMA Leadership College (TMALC) was established in 2010 to develop strong, sustainable physician leadership in Texas. After ten years, over 200 TMALC alumni serve as thought leaders within organized medicine, closing the divide between clinicians and health care policymakers. As confident physician leaders, they are trusted voices in their profession and their communities.

TCMS members under the age of 40 or in the first eight years of practice, are invited to apply to the 2022 TMALC class. The application deadline is Friday, June 25, 2021.

Spanish Meducation® Is Now Online

Spanish Meducation® is the practical medical Spanish program offered through the Travis County Medical Society. The eight-week program (meeting once a week) is designed for all health care professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, therapists, social workers, technicians, emergency personnel, and their support staff. The classes develop beginning, intermediate and advanced conversational skills in general Spanish with a concentration on health care situations while grammar takes a back seat. All handouts are included in the tuition cost; no textbook is required.

These classes will be held online.

Grant Opportunity

The Texas Academy of Family Physicians Heart of Texas Chapter has created an exciting grant program. Using chapter resources, grants of $500 to $5,000 are available for health and wellness and other community projects in Central Texas. An active or life member of the chapter must sponsor the application but does not otherwise need to be involved in the project. If you are involved with a community program or know of one in your area that would be interested in applying, please forward the application to them.

The application deadline is July 15, 2021. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Dr. Mark Ambler at mambler@arcmd.com or (512) 981-9868.

Medicare Provides MIPS Relief Due to Texas Winter Storm

Certain practices affected by Texas’ statewide winter storm won’t have to submit data for Medicare's Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) for 2021. They can if they want, though – and take a gamble on getting either an incentive payment or a penalty.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced that its "extreme and uncontrollable circumstances" policy will apply automatically to MIPS-eligible clinicians in federally declared Texas disaster areas as a result of the February storm.
